Doing hard work make people happy is just worship.

What would happen if we all just studied for marks?

  1. We would only accept to learn those things which fetched us marks.
  2. We’d go to for tuitions.
  3. We’d stop paying too much attention in class.
  4. We wouldn’t want to be clear about concepts if they weren’t apparent.
  5. We would just accept truths we don’t understand the reasoning behind

And now the most important ones:

  6. There would be no further innovation or research in the world.
  7. Syllabuses would change to purposely inculcate a more research-oreinted study of subjects. (This would be a good thing achieved by the wrong means.)

The end doesn’t justify the means… ever.

I study because I really want to.

I study because I absolutely want to know how the world works. I took the subjects I wanted because those were the ones that interested me most.

I don’t study to pass tests (not that I’m willing to accept failing in any), I study because i want to know more about the world.

In order to change the world, one has to know how it works first. That’s what studying does for me.

Mathematics is so consistent that diverse ideas are all interrelated in amazing, almost terrifying ways. When Physics experiments agree with theory before my eyes, I get that feeling of bliss that makes me teary, something which I don’t usually get from anything else. When Chemistry that is taught corresponds with daily-life experiences, it strikes a chord in me somewhere, which makes me teary-eyed again.

The feeling of realising that I now really knowing how something works is so great, that I can barely control...

Tumblr vs Blogger

The irony is that I’m writing this on Svbtle. Another thing I don’t like Svbtle for is that to type my post, I have to zoom the “write” page to 150%. That’s just bad on Svbtle’s part. And the worst part is that I don’t even know where I should report this.

Anyway, Tumblr versus Blogger.

I’ve personally been using Blogger a lot more than Tumblr. I don’t even remember my Tumblr password.

But Tumblr’s been gaining in popularity in a big way. It is the go-to network for all teens who are crazy about the internet in a social kind-of way. They’d prefer Tumblr to Facebook.

But I prefer Blogger, not only because it is simple and I’ve already been using a Google account for the past many years (at least half a decade), but also because I feel more “in control” with Blogger.

All those different “post types” in Tumblr, and the quirky search feature, are all drawbacks. I know I can’t gain an...

Why do we celebrate birthdays?

What’s so great about birthdays, huh?

As it turns out, nothing, actually. The same can be said for all days that we celebrate. In the greater timescale of the Universe, Sun and Earth, our birthdays are nothing.

If the frequency of birthdays celebrated by an ant, whose total lifespan (for a queen ant) is about 12 years, is taken to be equal to that of those celebrated by us humans, then ants would have to have birthdays almost every month.

I’d like to think we celebrate birthdays because they’re important to us. We keep counting the years we’ve lived, even though we spend our days as if we’d never die.

Humans and irony go well together in more ways than one, though I wouldn’t like to make this an academic piece of writing by citing examples and whatnot.

Instead, I’d like to go into the philosophy of it all, and in the context of birthday celebrations. The “Happy Birthday” song that...

What I like about Svbtle (and what I hate too)

The only thing that’s really cool about Svbtle is its “works like your mind” idea. That is simply too good, and I must admit, it does really work exactly the way we think – then write.

Although I’ve tried writing on the go, and publishing as soon as I’m done with an article, I’ve always produced better pieces of writing by constant editing over a period of time, making small (but significant) changes, the most important of which is deleting sentences (and sometimes whole paragraphs). The second most important thing about editing is rewriting. It helps me express myself more concisely, and put things across with greater clarity. Additionally, it simplifies my sentence construction quite a bit, so I don’t come across as too formal.

I also like the fact that I can write posts in Markdown, but there’s a slight issue with implementation too (I’m coming to that).

Now, on to the things I...

Medium to Throwww to Svbtle

Article on Throwww

I’m writing this just to try out Svbtle. I like how the name is self-referential, with the ‘v’ being a subtle change in the word ‘subtle’.

Medium is used for one thing. Throwww is used for another thing. Blogger is used for yet another thing. Then there’s Svbtle – a class of its own.

Sure, both Svbtle and Medium need quite some work, although Medium has been the more comfortable “medium” for now.

I’ll post here once in a while, knowing I’ve got the lucky firstname.svbtle.com URL that only a few lucky people get.

And boy, am I lucky! What do you have to say about your first experience with Svbtle (or Medium)?
